Brilliant Orange 239616 is a cadmium-based, zirconium-encapsulated ceramic stain from Ferro. This stain is originally produced by Degussa, a forerunner of encapsulated stain technology focused on making bright true reds, yellows, and oranges that would hold at high temperatures.
Stains can be used to color slips, underglazes, and glazes. They need something to help them bind when fired, like a melter or flux. For example, to make underglaze, you can creature a mixture composed of 1/3 stain, 1/3 kaolin and 1/3 frit. If stains are just mixed with water and fired, they can still be powdery afterwards.
