Magnesium Carbonate is used in glazes as a source of magnesium oxide. A refractory at low temperatures, it becomes an active flux at high temperatures. Magnesium carbonate produces matte surfaces, increases glaze viscosity, and improves adhesion of glaze to clay. It can cause crawling in large amounts.
