Also known as Raw Zinc, Zinc Oxide is generally used as a flux in high temperature glazes. It lends opacity and encourages crystal growth when used in large amounts. A common constituent of matte glazes, it also has marked effect on colorants, promoting brilliance with copper and dulling iron and chrome. Zinc oxides can assist in reducing crazing of glazes. However, it is not recommended for use with some ceramic stains.
